TikTok is turning Gen Z to botox too early

The rise in documenting procedures via video sharing platforms has seen a disturbing shift in clinics shifting their business model to attract a younger audience.

25 year old influencer Adriene Davidson shared her experience of undergoing botox with her 569,000 followers via tiktok, as she admits she never knew people under 50 were getting botox until she saw a 23 year old vlog about it on TikTok.

Davidson commented ‘I saw her results and I was like ‘I need this right away’.

This sparked the influencer to share her experience from being numbed up to her frozen forehead results. She prefixed the video by saying ‘ I know this isn’t for everyone’. however, surprisingly her comments were largely positive. The comments were full of questions, as well as sone even saying they wish they had started their botox journey earlier in their life.

There was a defining moment that getting fillers and botox became more widely accepted, and that was probably when Kylie Jenner admitted to getting her lips done.

Being a member of Gen Z myself reader, I was always aware that it was a thing, but didn’t realise how much of a thing it was until I started seeing ‘duck lips’ all over the place. Miss Jenner helped to normalise it, but the after math of the pandemic has accelerated the trend.

Save Face, a UK register of accredited practitioners who provide non-surgical enhancement procedures, expected the pandemic to put a stop to cosmetic treatments. “It’s been the opposite,” Director Ashton Collins explained in an interview with Dazed, “our patient enquiries and web traffic increased over 60 per cent.” Many new customers sought treatment after seeing themselves talk and express emotions over video calls. “It came at a time when people couldn’t access other beauty treatments, so insecurities become magnified,” she says.

The interest in cosmetic treatments has escalated among the younger generations in the past years, as everyone is trying to seek out ways to keep themselves looking younger, fresher and enhancing their features. The most popular being plastic surgery, lip fillers and wrinkle prevention treatments, and what is most noticeable is the shift the general public feel towards them.
