How Instagram became obsessed with bums
Boobs and bum inspired homeware has become the most Instagrammed interiors trend of the last 18 months… here’s how to get the look in your home
If you haven't been hiding under your duvet for the last 18 months, you will be familiar with a certain nude theme taking over Instagram interiors, and OOTD backdrops.
Thanks to the Greeks the nude portrait dates back to as early as the 6th Century BC, and from then onwards we have become acclimatised to seeing the naked form in art and architecture. The human body has held a fascination to artists for generations since, depicted in oil-paintings films and television (thank you Titanic.) Fast forward to the 21st century, and we are of course still obsessing over the naked form, but this time it’s all over, where else, Instagram. Is this down to naked attraction?
We find out exactly where you can get the Internet’s favourite interiors trend:
The Vase
One item which has become a staple of any well curated Insta-feed is the Anissa Kermiche vase, which has taken the crown for most instagrammed home ornament of 2020. You know the one we are talking about, the 'Love Handles' bum vase, Anissa is widely credited for starting the ‘Bums’ trend. Anissa was previously known for her jewellery, but temporarily paused production on her collection to create the perfect vase, born out of her frustration of finding nothing like it on the market. It took Kermiche 7 attempts to perfect the position of the belly button, and the proportions of the legs to the waist. The vase started as a personal project for Anissa, but upon friends visiting and commenting on the bottom housing her bouquets, she decided to release for a limited run, and was astounded at the popularity the derriere demanded.
When asked why people are prepared to pay £340 for a bottom vase, the designer told British Vogue, “The Love Handles vase was created at a time when our fascination with interiors really took off. Instagram, in particular, has allowed our homes to be opened up to the eyes of the world and, as a result, investing in interiors has become a priority for people as much as their wardrobes.” She credits 'authoritative influencers' for originally giving her vases a platform and for encouraging her to experiment with new designs.
Since the popularity of the love handles design, Kermiche has since added the’ ‘Jugs Jug’, the ‘Breast Friend’ vase and the ‘Popotin Pot’ to her collection.

The Candles
Next up, the female form candles. One day you're scrolling and see one on an interiors account, then all of a sudden your feed is full of full frontal pastel coloured naked bodies. This is one of those candles that are actually so beautiful that you don't want to light them. ‘Naked Candles’ have become an entirely new category of home decor to be featured on coffee table books, just like the Diptyque and Byredo candles before them. This design is destined to give your interiors an up-to-date refresh.
DropDeadCandles even offers body positive messages in the form of 'plus sized body candles'.

The Nude Necklace
When it comes to the nude trend on Instagram it doesn't stop at interiors. This gorgeous pendant from Estee Lalonde's Daisy collection, features a solid gold female torso, a nod to our fascination over the naked form. Upon launching it did the rounds on instagram, and rightly so. It is a work of art.
