This 2000’s Phone String Trend is back…

It’s weird but we kind of love it

Remember Ugg boots, pink Motorola Razor flip phones and Juicy Couture? If you’re nostalgic for the noughties there is one unlikely trend that has come back in a big way, phone strings. According to the Zoe Report, “Beaded iPhone strings are the unlikely tech accessory that you are about to start to seeing everywhere.”

London-based brand String Ting, is almost single handedly responsible for bringing back the trend with its designs seen on the likes of Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa and Gigi Hadid. Social media has played a huge part in the success of the brand with the beaded strings front-and-centre in many a celebrity selfie, making them an instant cult favourite for Gen-Z.

The brand was founded by Rachel Steed-Middleton during the first wave of the pandemic as a fundraising initiative for frontline workers. In just a few months, Rachel built a team who carefully assemble the beads in acrylic, glass and resin strung on resistant satin cord. The result are happiness-inducing designs that remind us vividly of the phone strings we once loved in the early 00’s.’

Vogue have labelled it, “A bizarre standout accessory,” but as the phone jewellery easily loops through a phone case, it is as practical as it is playful. (No more dropping your iPhone.) Make like Lily Allen and use it to your advantage on the coffee run.

Is it silly? Yes. Do we want one? Absolutely.
