‘AI’ searches rocket to the highest point in history

Search volume nearly tripled from January 2023 to May 2023

According to an analysis of Google search data, online searches for 'AI' or artificial intelligence have reached their highest point ever. Digital-adoption.com has provided figures demonstrating that 2023 has been a groundbreaking year for AI, with search volume more than doubling from 17 million in January to 42 million in May. This surge is particularly noteworthy when compared to the 7.9 million searches in January 2022.

The increased interest in AI correlates with the release of accessible AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT in November 2022 and Bing AI and Google Bard in May 2023. These chatbots have captured the attention of the public and have contributed to the exponential growth in searches related to 'AI'.

Additionally, data from TikTok reveals that interest in artificial intelligence has increased tenfold since 2020, while searches related to virtual reality have more than tripled during the same period.

The prominence of AI as a topic of discussion this year can be attributed to the availability of accessible AI chatbots and the introduction of new technologies, which have facilitated widespread adoption. These advancements have even prompted tech leaders like Elon Musk to advocate for regulation in the field of AI.

In recent news, Apple generated excitement by unveiling its Vision Pro mixed reality headset at the Worldwide Developers Conference in California on June 5. This announcement caused searches for 'VR,' 'mixed reality,' and 'augmented reality' to surge worldwide by 300%, 1,130%, and 545% respectively.

During the conference, CEO Tim Cook described the Vision Pro as a long-awaited revolutionary product that seamlessly integrates the real and digital worlds to enhance reality. This technology represents a significant step towards the era of spatial computing, where digital content seamlessly blends with our physical space.

The increased interest in searches related to 'AI' reflects a growing fascination with artificial intelligence and its potential impact on various industries and everyday life.

A spokesperson from Digital-adoption.com commented on the findings, stating “There has been a massive surge in AI interest this year. Apple’s announcement of Vision Pro has captured audiences at the right time, when new AI technologies, like ChatGPT, have become accessible to almost anyone. The latest announcement from Apple could start to tip the balance and encourage more users to adopt this kind of advanced tech into their homes and working lives”.
