Instagram doesn’t want to be a “photo sharing” app anymore
Big changes are coming to Instagram. Are you ready?
MSN, My Space, Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Clubhouse, are all social media platforms we are familiar with and love (or have loved) over the years, but with all the new features each are introducing, its getting hard to keep up with them all and what they can do differently from each other.
Instagram is set to bridge the gap with its upcoming new features which are speculated to be similar to TikTok’s video news feed. The announcement came from Adam Mosseri, head of instagram, who spoke on the brands mission to create a recommended video news feed when you open the app, similar to TikTok.
“We’re going to be experimenting with how do we embrace video more broadly -- full screen, immersive, entertaining, mobile-first video,” Mosseri said. “You’ll see us do a number of things, or experiment with a number of things in this space over the coming months.”
The big change has come about after the success of TikTok, which has clearly rifled other social media platforms. The change means recommended videos will be on the news feed which first comes up when you open the app. This will increase creator visibility and allow for you to see new accounts and content you would not otherwise see.
“People are looking to Instagram to be entertained. There’s stiff competition, and there’s more to do,” Mosseri said. “We have to embrace that, and that means change.”
The message from Instagram is clear… it no longer wants to be seen as a, “square photo-sharing app,” as Mosseri put it. Instead it is putting its focus on becoming a general entertainment platform driven primarily by its video algorithm.
