How to add pronouns to Instagram

Instagram is letting you choose pronouns on your profile, and we are here for it

Instagram users will now be able to add gender inclusive pronouns on their profiles. This new feature allows users to choose between four pronouns from a pre-approved list including she/her, he/him, they/them and the gender neutral pronoun ze. Not only has the company said users can edit or remove pronouns at any time, you can also fill out a form to have a pronoun added to the list if it is not included.

Instagram explained on Twitter that the feature is now available in a ‘few countries’, but did not specify which ones.

So how can you change your pronouns on Instagram?

1 | Tap the profile tab in the button bar at the bottom of your screen.

2| On the profile page, tap “Edit Profile.”

3| Tap on the “Pronouns” field.

4| On the next screen in the “Add your pronouns” field, start typing your desired pronouns. Instagram will limit you to choosing from the suggested pronouns that come up. This is so people can’t type in non-pronoun text instead of the ‘accepted’ pronouns.

5 | After you’ve selected your pronouns, you can choose between letting everyone who views your profile see your pronouns or only allowing your followers to view them.

6 | Tap the “Done” button and the pronouns will now appear on your Instagram bio next to your name.
