With the pandemic inspiring people to look for social-distanced alternatives to a traditional holiday, (think glamping, yachts, and tree-house hotels) this floating pod that can sail you and a select group of friends around the world could be just what we needed in these unprecedented times.
Meet the Anthénea, a luxury floating habitat. The inspiration behind the nautical den came from James Bond’s floating Lotus Esprit car in the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me.
The brainchild of architect Jean-Michel Ducancelle, the pod has remarkably eco-friendly credentials, it runs off of solar energy and releases clean water back into the ocean using its own black and gray water filtration systems. It also utilizes special sand screw anchoring to avoid damage to the seabed and fragile marine eco-system below.
Inside, the pod boasts 360-degree views of the ocean and lets you see underwater as well. The master bedroom includes an extra large 1960s-inspired round bed with a round bathtub that can be filled with sea or freshwater. There's also a living area with a kitchen and high-spec fibreglass windows that allow you to peer into the ocean. The most instagrammable feature however might be the dome-shaped roof, which boats an open-air seating area that can fit up to 12 people, making it perfect for the ultimate hen-do or even honeymoon.
Luckily, you don't need to be a Bond-girl to have your own super villain hide-out. If you're interested in renting it for a few nights the pod is currently available for hire from the Côte de Granit Rose, but you can also purchase one and request specific modifications to your pods design.
