TikTok introduces text-only posts

Amidst escalating competition among social media giants, the Chinese-owned video streaming app TikTok has introduced a new feature to its platform - text-only posts. This move aims to offer users "another way to express themselves" and enhance the app's versatility.

Earlier, TikTok had launched a music streaming service to challenge the likes of Spotify and Apple Music in the music streaming domain. Meanwhile, Twitter, led by Elon Musk, made a significant change by replacing its famous blue bird logo with a black and white X.

With the introduction of text-only posts, TikTok users now have three options - posting photos, videos, or text. The platform also allows customisation of posts by adding sound, location, or Duets, which are video reactions to other users' posts.

TikTok Music, the new music streaming service, was recently launched in Brazil and Indonesia, with beta versions being rolled out in Singapore, Mexico, and Australia. The service enables users to discover, listen, share, and download music from TikTok and share their favorite tracks and artists within the TikTok community.

The app is currently testing other features, including a new landscape mode with select users around the world.

TikTok has experienced tremendous success, becoming the most popular online destination in 2021, surpassing even Google in terms of hits. The app boasts over one billion active users globally.

Competition in the social media industry has intensified in recent weeks. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, launched its Threads platform, which attracted more than 100 million users within five days, according to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta.

Moreover, Twitter underwent a rebranding under Elon Musk's direction, replacing its blue bird branding with a logo featuring a white X on a black background. Even the term "tweets" will be replaced with "X's."

As the social media battle continues to intensify, platforms are introducing new features and services to retain and attract users, making the industry even more dynamic and competitive.
