Tapper drops its first-ever solid 18K gold chain for AirPods
Fashion tech brand Tapper have crafted a yellow-gold double knitted mesh chain, for a princely sum of €2,900. The chain is compatible with the Apple AirPods and AirPods Pro, and handcrafted and designed in Sweden.
Not sure about the price? Think of it as fine jewellery for your AirPods… this unique chain is the opulent new way of keeping your headphones both safe (they are notoriously easy to lose) and stylish. Tapper’s latest offering also features a magnetic lock to secure it, making it look even more like a necklace.
The brand previously released a more affordable version 18K gold plated rope chain for €80 which become an instant bestseller, however this version seems to be aimed at the luxury market who want nothing but the best for their tech.
The Original Tapper Chain
‘Using the Tapper Chain is the convenient and hassle-free way to wear and access your AirPods,’ Tapper explained in a statement. The name Tapper comes from the Swedish word for being brave or courageous. Inspiration for the name was derived from Apple's senior vice president, Phil Schiller, saying that the decision to lose the headphone jack wasn't about a wireless future, it was essentially about being brave.
The idea of Tapper’s first strap for the AirPods came into being in September 2016, the same week as the Apple AirPods were announced. Founder Robin Westlund studied at Stockholm School of Economics and read about the new wireless in-ears that were to disrupt the modern earphone industry.

In the following days (as the AirPods were going viral on social media,) many of the comments and memes focused on how easy they will be to lose. Westlund understood that there would be a demand for the strap, helping to keep your AirPods safe in a smart and elegant way. On the 10th of September Robin and a few friends sat overnight, and the following morning they launched the Tapper website with the first 3D-renderings of the Tapper AirPod Strap.
Tapper was the first brand to position themselves as a ‘Premium AirPod Strap,’ creating chains that protect and elevate the look of your AirPods. In March 2017, they made their debut at the iconic concept store Colette in Paris. Not a bad place to start.
