Everything you need to know about Kim Kardashian’s £2,000 Prenuvo scan

The health tech uses AI to detect cancer and other diseases at its earliest stages

Move over red carpets and selfies, Kim Kardashian is here to school us on health tech.

Breaking away from her usual glamour, Kim recently rocked navy scrubs in an Instagram post to advocate for a state-of-the-art screening medical tech screening service. But this wasn't just another celeb ad.

Prenuvo is an advanced medical screening device with plenty of A-List fans

She shared her experience undergoing a Prenuvo scan, a comprehensive screening procedure that can detect cancer and diseases such as aneurysms in their early stages, even before symptoms appear. Kim shared her Prenuvo scan experience, raving about this life-saving machine that can spot trouble before it knocks on your body's door.

“I recently did this @prenuvo scan and had to tell you all about this life saving machine. The Prenuvo full-body scan has the ability to detect cancer and diseases such as aneurysms in its earliest stages, before symptoms arise,” Kim said in her post.

We all know Kim's no stranger to sponsored content, but this time, it was all heart. In her caption, she emphasised that this post was not a sponsored advertisement but a genuine effort to raise awareness about the effectiveness of the Prenuvo scan saying, “It was like getting a MRI for an hour with no radiation. It has really saved some of my friends lives and I just wanted to share #NotAnAd.”

“At Prenuvo, we firmly believe that everyone deserves the knowledge necessary to make informed decisions about their health.” the brand explains in a statement, “Our mission is to empower people to lead happier, healthier, and longer lives through early detection and unparalleled clarity about their well-being.”

It will cost a pretty penny (around £2000 to be exact), and sadly, it's not yet available in the UK. While the cost might be prohibitive for many, Kim's post serves as a vital reminder for everyone to prioritise their health. Whether it's scheduling a long-delayed cervical smear test or a routine check-up, taking charge of one's health is crucial, even if the latest tech is out of our budget.

What is Prenuvo?

The scan, priced at just over £2000, is positioned as a proactive approach to health, distinguishing itself from conventional MRI scans. According to the company, these scans can identify over 500 common and rare conditions, including various types of cancer, by utilising advanced anatomical and functional imaging techniques. Unlike traditional MRI scans, Prenuvo scans can cover the entire body or specific areas like the head or torso in a single session, providing a comprehensive health assessment in under an hour. “Our core acquisition protocols make use of anatomical and functional imaging sequences and an approach called multiparametric imaging that is revolutionising MRI in many organs of the body,”  the brand’s website explains, ”What is distinctive about Prenuvo is our ability to acquire these protocols in a single sitting across the entire body. In effect, we are applying the principles of nuclear imaging and apply them in the context of radiology,” the brand’s website explains.

Does Prenuvo use AI?

Prenuvo is also heavily counting on advanced AI to make decisions about the results from the scans. Many research studies show that AI can play a pivotal role in imaging, either through making radiologists more efficient and making fewer mistakes and eventually replacing radiologists for some tasks. “Prenuvo invests heavily in AI. AI approaches are increasingly complementing our core clinical pipeline. Notably, we are excited about the power of AI to make imaging more quantitative and accurate which in turn could lead to earlier diagnoses and more successful interventions,” they website explains.

Who is the founder of Prenuvo?

The "renu" in Prenuvo pays tribute to Reenu, a dear childhood friend of Dr. Raj Attariwala, the brand’s founding radiologist. Reenu, a vibrant woman and a mother of four beautiful children, became the driving force behind Prenuvo's mission. Tragically, at the young age of 36, Reenu was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer. Despite her brave fight, she lost her battle with the disease a year later.

Before her diagnosis, Reenu had repeatedly mentioned her fatigue to her doctor during visits, but she was reassured not to worry. Driven by the belief that Reenu's story could have taken a different turn with early and accurate information, Dr. Attariwala and his family were inspired to create a technology that could have prevented her untimely passing.
