By sifting through the top 50 Google search terms, AI Product Reviews, the world's “number one trusted AI directory” unearthed a surprising trend: a whopping 73,000 monthly searches for AI relationship bots.
Leading the pack in this digital dating game is the search for “AI girlfriend”, with more than 35,350 monthly searches, leaving “AI friends” in the dust at 10,100 searches and “AI boyfriends” following at a mere 3,700 monthly searches.
Google Trends data reveals a jaw-dropping 2,400% surge in interest for AI girlfriends, prompting a slew of apps to cater to this demand. For instance, Romantic AI confidently declares on its website, “Have you ever dreamed about the best girlfriend ever? Now she can be at your fingertips.” Meanwhile, Replika proudly boasts 2 million users on its AI app. Replika says its service is “An AI companion who is eager to learn and would love to see the world through your eyes. Replika is always ready to chat when you need an empathetic friend.”
Romantic AI says its technology offers an “Active listener, empathy, a friend you can trust.”
But there's more to these AI relationships than meets the eye. Users aren't just seeking friendship and romance; they're also on the hunt for AI-driven… ahem… intimacy, with 24,250 monthly searches for AI sex chat-related terms.
These statistics raise intriguing ethical and societal questions that will undoubtedly shape our future. In a recent UK poll conducted by YouGov, participants were asked, “How would you feel if a romantic partner of yours was exchanging sexual messages with an AI chatbot?” The majority, a whopping 58%, admitted they'd be hurt by the idea, while only 12% were okay with it.
AI's impact on romance goes beyond just chatting up bots. Another study by Attractiontruth found that 1 in 5 men on dating apps are turning to AI in hopes of scoring better responses from potential matches.
