Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Review: 5 Things I Loved
Hilary Peltz founder of in.Parallel, put the glasses to the test…
In the realm of wearable tech, the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses stand as a beacon of innovation.
Building upon the success of the first-generation smart glasses, Meta has refined and expanded key features based on user feedback. The glasses are now lighter and more comfortable, ensuring extended use without compromising on style or convenience. The open-ear audio functionality enhances the hands-free experience, allowing users to enjoy music and receive messages without the need for headphones or constantly checking their phones.
After immersing myself in their world, here are my top five reasons why I'm smitten with them:
The Audio Experience: A Symphony in My Ears
One of the first things that swept me off my feet was the audio quality these glasses deliver. With a simple voice command, my favourite tunes start playing directly into my ears. The beauty of it all is that I don't need to fumble with headphones or reach for my phone. Having my messages read aloud to me adds an entirely new layer of convenience. It allows me to multitask, and not appear closed off to others with headphones in my ears.
A Fashionista's Dream: The Wayfarer
Style is a personal statement, and the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses understand that perfectly. Opting for the classic wayfarer was a no-brainer for me – they exude timeless style. However, the sheer variety of frames and lens colours ensures there's a perfect match for every mood, outfit, or occasion.
Wanderlust Unleashed: Traveling with Ray-Ban Meta
My recent escapade to India became infinitely more memorable thanks to these smart glasses. Documenting my journey without the constant need to clutch my phone was liberating. The hands-free photo and video capture allowed me to immerse myself fully in the vibrant tapestry of my travels. Recording the energetic festivities of my friend’s traditional Indian wedding, the glasses became my trusted companion, offering a unique perspective and freeing me from the burden of a handheld device.
Effortless Memories: The Photo Montage Feature
The Ray-Ban Meta app's photo montage feature is a game-changer. Creating a visual narrative of my experiences became a breeze. The app intelligently curates a montage of my photos and videos, transforming my memories into a captivating story. Uploading these moments to my photo album and sharing them on social media is a seamless process.
Mirror Selfies, Elevated: Shades and No Phone
Mirror selfies just look cooler now with shades and no phone. No longer confined to the limitations of a handheld device, these glasses add an air of mystery and sophistication to every “self-portrait.” It's a small touch, but it's the kind of detail that transforms the mundane.
And the one thing I didn’t like…
Delay: Time Lag On Taking Photos
Wearing Meta's sunglasses has been an intriguing experience, offering a unique perspective on capturing moments effortlessly. However, my journey with these smart shades revealed a notable drawback: the slight delay in capturing videos and pictures. One of the drawbacks I encountered was the brief one-second delay in initiating video or photo capture. While it may seem insignificant, this lag can be a crucial factor, especially when trying to capture spontaneous or fleeting moments. There were instances where I missed the perfect shot due to this slight delay, leaving me somewhat frustrated. It's a reminder that while the technology is innovative, there are still refinements needed to make it seamlessly responsive to real-time situations.
